Autumn Lake Winery is a vineyard established in 2012 with small winery created with a singular purpose; to create wines of superior quality from grapes grown of their own cultivation. And it’s literally in your backyard in Williamstown, New Jersey.
Once an old sand quarry, the land upon which Autumn Lake Winery now sits has been transformed. Over 100 acres of forests, lakes, and wildlife, complete with walking trails await you here. Their clay and gravel-laced soils turn out to be the ultimate conditions for wine grapes that are grown above the lakes where not much else can flourish. This provides cold weather moderation and warm weather breezes, perfect for slow and steady ripening. Part science, part nature, part passion, and part art, good wine is made right in the vineyard. When you visit you can bring a packed lunch and enjoy an afternoon overlooking the lakes, forests and vineyards.
Stroll the miles of walking trails and take in the natural beauty and you’ll likely observe some of the native wildlife or simply relax at an enjoyable a wine tasting.
Relax by the fire pit or at the picnic area with a glass or bottle. Live entertainment every Saturday May-October and on special events year-round. The vineyard is child and pet-friendly.
Scotland Run Golf Club is also located in Williamstown. This public golf course and country club opened in 1999. The 18-hole course was built on an old sand quarry and offers a blend of wooded, quarry and links-style landscaping.
Five holes are actually in the quarry landscape. Most well known and a challenger to players is the 16th hole where golfers must hit the ball over the quarry and into the green, nearly 400 yards from the tee.
Scotland Run was named one of the Top 50 Public Courses in the country by the readers of Golf World magazine on their annual Readers’ Choice Awards in 2009 and 2010. The course also has the honor of being awarded the #1 course in the Philadelphia Region by Business Week Magazine. You’ll find equipment and accessories in the pro shop as well.
Scotland Run is a very popular hot spot for golfers in Williamstown New Jersey and is top notch. After a round of golf, there’s the Highlander Pub and Grill, a neighborhood tavern atmosphere. “Every time we finish a round of golf, we not only appreciate the course but enjoy the brunch and view from the deck,” commented one of the recent guests.
